Today is World Refugee Day

refugees2Millions of people are displaced. Having been forced to leave their family, home, and country, often to escape persecution, the threat of imprisonment,  and even threats to their lives, they seek a safe place where they can heal and begin to rebuild their lives.  Canadian Lutheran World Relief states, “The emphasis of World Refugee Day 2014 is the impact of war on families. This year, violent political conflicts have worsened what many are calling a global refugee crisis. The United Nations estimates that worldwide 45.2 million people have been forcibly displaced from their homes.”

Please keep these refugees in your prayers and pray for the Lord raise up world leaders who desire peace. Consider supporting the work of CLWR and other agencies that are on the ground assisting refugees get settled and find that safe place. Explore and encourage your congregation to sponsor refugees.  You might ask your pastor to have a Refugee Sunday.
