Delivering Warmth and Comfort to Syrian Refugees

CLWRCanadian Lutheran World Relief (CLWR News Brief, Feb. 2014) provides the following update concerning its work in a Jordanian refugee camp:

Click here to see 15 photos from a recent distribution of heaters, gas bottles, gas coupons, carpets and winter clothing to 250 Syrian and Jordanian families living in the Mafraq area of northern Jordan. The distribution was made possible through your support and the assistance of the Canadian government.

What you will see in the photos is people lining up at a compound to receive the items. When it is their turn, they check in with Lutheran World Federation staff, and then proceed to trucks to receive the items.

Sweaters for Syrian refugees: On February 7, a third container of sweaters left our Winnipeg warehouse for the Za’atari refugee camp in Jordan. Over 22,000 sweaters were loaded this time, bringing the sweater campaign’s total to a staggering 70,237 sweaters shipped (more than seven times our goal!). With the first shipments recently arriving in the country, we look forward to sharing with everyone the impact their donations have made. Click here for video footage of the third shipment being prepared and loaded.

Shoes for Syrian children: Thanks to everyone who has donated so far towards shoes for Syrian children through the Syria’s Need campaign. Your support has been amazing. Many small feet will be warmer and better protected in the months to come. To learn more about the campaign and make a gift, please click here.
