An Alternative to Black Friday — Help Provide Refugee Children with a School

refugeeCanadian Lutheran World Relief offers an alternative to Black Friday. It’s called, “Giving School-Day.”  Tom Brooks, CLWR Community Relations Director, writes,

Dear Friends,

Thank you for paying it forward. Your generous support for our Giving School-Day campaign has helped raise enough money for more than 11 classrooms already! Fantastic!

Today is Black Friday. You are probably hearing a lot about sales at your favorite stores this weekend, and taking advantage of some of those great deals yourself.

In the same way that Black Friday unites the retail community, Giving Tuesday on December 2 unites charities, companies and individuals in the spirit of giving.

If you haven’t already, will you consider donating $20 for the Canadian Lutheran version of Giving Tuesday?

Giving School-Day aims to build classrooms for refugee children and fill them with desks, books, blackboards and other necessary school supplies. To read more about this work, visit clwr.org/schoolday.

Our goal is 20 classrooms by the end of December 2. At $250 a classroom, that’s a total of $5,000. We’re more than half-way already! Let’s get all the way there.

You can donate by clicking on: Giving School-Day.  If you prefer to donate via phone or mail, you can do so by calling: 1-800-661-2597 or mailing your cheque to: Canadian Lutheran World Relief 600-177 Lombard Avenue, Winnipeg MB, R3B 0W5
