“And there were horses and giggling children abiding in the fields” surrounding John D. Bracco School (Edmonton) on December 9th as a multitude of followers of Christ from The Olive Branch announced the birth of Jesus, “For unto you is born this day in the city of David, a Saviour, who is Christ the Lord!”
After singing “Jingle Bells” as they enjoyed a horse-drawn sleigh ride, parents warmed themselves by a crackling fire while their children tried their hand at ice bowling and erecting inuksuks made out of coloured ice blocks.
Indoors, the Christmas carol, “Hark the Herald Angels Sing” flooded the school atrium as children and their parents munched on popcorn, renewed their strength with a Christmas orange, and sipped hot chocolate as they handcrafted angels and wooden representations of Mary and Joseph, worked on puzzles, and decorated shortbread cookies. Shepherds and Wise Men could be seen at the photo booth as people had Christmas pictures taken by Let’s Reminisce Photography. As parents and children got dressed in costume, they were reminded of the role that their “character” played in the Christmas story. Mittens, Bibles, and DVDs telling the story of Jesus were handed out as gifts to all who would receive them.
Christmas Magic was an enchanted afternoon as the birth of Jesus was proclaimed and celebrated! Now, the Olive Branchers pray that all who attended Christmas Magic (and all the people of the world for that matter!) will be moved by the Spirit of God to pray, “Be near me, Lord Jesus; I ask Thee to stay Close by me forever and love me, I pray. Bless all the dear children in Thy tender care, And take us to heaven to live with Thee there.”
